A quick update on my hexagon progress. I started this project last January. I began with only inspiration from a photo of an antique quilt -- no pattern. I pulled a bunch of fabrics that I liked and began basting hexagons. The original plan was to baste until I thought I had enough. Enough for what, I don't know. I decided I had better try to figure out some sort of plan. Armed with lots of little baggies filled with different colors, 1 yard of black and 4 1/4 yard cuts of lights all basted, I began to put some of the stars together. I stitched until I ran out of black and now know I can make 9 stars. Continuing on I used up all the lights and know that 1 yard will make 14 stars. I think I would like to make 36 stars in total.
The last time I shared my progress I forgot to give a size reference. The pieces are 1/2" and the last photo shows a penny covering one piece. I'm so glad I took the pictures today, I am inspired to keep going when I see it all laid out.
I wonder how many January's I will be updating my progress until this is done?

WOW! My hexagon papers arrived a few days ago, they are 1 and a quarter inch ones, your work has really inspired me. the scary thing is I'm not sure i have the "stick-at-it-ness to be still on it next january. i like my things done. It may be very good for my impatient quilter persona!!But, enough of me, the accolades are all you-STUNNING!!!

Libby those Hexagon stars look fantastic and the hexagons are so tiny. I have seen a few bloggers over the past few months showing their hexagon projects. I would love to try them but i'm going to wait until i get some UFOs out of the way first.

Tiny pieces. Any ideas for the fillers? I'm guessing the stars are about 12 inches.. They're beautiful. An incredible amount of detail...I'd admire the persistance to keep going..

Wow that sure is a pretty quilt coming along...

A. do you leave the papers in?
B. Is it done like your red flowers from last month?
C. I got another one of those kits.... Not sure How I will do mine, but I "could not" leave it at the store - good old GC burning a hole in my pocket syndrome.

It is so exciting to watch this piece unfold. I'd no idea your hexagons where that little - 1/2" is tiny! That will make this piece even more remarkable when it's finished. Your color choices are right up my alley - another reason why I like this so much I think. You go girl! This will be incredible when it's finished!

I knew they were tiny when you told me the size but the penny clinches the idea of just how small they are!! Stunning! I might have to start another of these ones. I think the way you are doing these is better than sewing line by line because you get the satisfaction of having a star done!!

So do the ones without the black fit between the stars with balck and nest? or are you keeping the layout and filing in the little diamonds with another color or pattern?? Can't wait to see!!

Wow! You sure have a lot of patience to make all those tiny little 1/2" hexagons. I'm "working" on a grandmother's flower garden myself, well, I sort of stuck it in the closet. I got tired of hexagons!

So tiny! So beautiful! My great big 1 1/2inch hexagons are lazy next to yours. Thanks for the progress report
