Going down to the mailbox is one of my least favorite things. We live in a neighborhood with cluster mailboxes located throughout the development. I fully understand that these boxes are convenient for mail carriers, but still I would prefer to have the mail delivered right to my door. Most days the box is filled with unsolicited junk with a sprinkling of bills - hardly the stuff that makes you want to tie your shoes, grab your keys and head up the street. But not every day . . . sometimes there are unexpected, wonderful surprises tucked inside. Yesterday was one such day.
Look what was waiting inside a little padded envelope just for me! Annie from Quilt Til You Wilt sent out this sweet little fella . He carried a card with a darling little poem and a note from Annie, too. Sure looks like he was always meant to come live with me . . . . look at all those homespun fabrics and some wool, too. Does anyone remember the song ' . . . all tasty and tan, sweet gingerbread man' It has been going through my head all morning. Thank you, Annie - what a treat! I'm getting close to finishing my Four Seasons Winter Swap quilt. I layered it last evening and started quilting. I had several ideas in my mind for quilting motifs. Once I got my pencil out for marking, I was quickly reminded that it's a small piece. I didn't want to overwhelm the little guy. If all goes according to plan, I will be stitching on the binding tonight.
Today will be the final push to get the Christmas decorations down. It took me a long time to get around to putting them up and now an equal amount of procrastination to get them down. As much as I enjoy having them displayed, I'm ready for the house to be back to normal.

Your little gingerbread man is so sweet, and gorgeous plaids. Now that winter quilt is just too cute, almost ready to grace the home of it's reciever.

Snowman is coming right along! I hate going to the side of the building to get mail too, so I let hubby do it on the way in the door. However being in a condo I can understand the mailbox deal. In a house...I'd be irritated too.

Speaking of mailmen, mine rang my bell to deliver my box of goodies too!

I have the same feelings about getting the mail. Now that you even need a key, it seems like such an insult to open it up and find only junk. Glad yours held some goodies today.

I hear you. Our mailbox is over half a mile away so we usually drive, especially in this cold weather and usually it's not worth the trip. So nice when there is something wonderful there.

Dare I say that I now have 2 mailboxes? Ours is at the end of the driveway and I rented a PO Box for Auntie's forwarded mail. Love the little snowman. I need to rethink my quilting on mine 'cause I don't like the way it is looking.

Oh don't get me started on the postal service, we have a mailbox in front of our house, but the postman is evil! It's a long story. What a cute little quilt you got there, and I love your swap quilt too!

OK, I'm totally in love with the snowman piece--forget the 4 seasons swap---- ship it to me...it would feel at home in the cold... I can just look at it and see the love that went into it... talk to me about the embroidery--- DMC floss? how many threads? No kidding... I just love it...

glad my little man reached you safely! "Run, run, run as fast as you can, you can't catch me I'm the Gingerbread Man!" was in my head when I was putting him together!

Libby your snowman is just the most wonderful! Your swap partner is one lucky gal. That gingerbread man is just precious. We have the same mail deal, our box kiosk is about 3/4 of a mile and the darn mailman never comes at the same time...the other day I drove up at 4:15 and he was just starting to put the mail in. Grrrrr! Went back the next morning.

Annie's gingerbread man looks like it was made especially for you--well it was, LOL. She obviously knows your tastes well.

I love your winter quilt as well. You can enjoy your decorations as long as you like, Libby. After all, we only see them for a short time each year.

Oh Libby - I sure was I were your swap partner! And what a cute little surprise from Anne - as you say, it's absolutely perfect for you!

As far as the mail goes - at least you don't have to worry about it being stolen.
