Then I captured some of what has been dealt with so far. There is a stack of 2 1/2" strips, a healthy pile of 5" squares, a basket of 1 1/2" strips, another basket with scraps to use in applique, a few pieces that qualified to be folded up as fat quarters, and some 1" strips that can't be seen here.
Here are all the pieces for the next quilt I plan to do from this book.
Another 50 5" squares that will be re-cut into 2 1/2" squares for a project I'll be starting this week. I guess I did get a lot done, there's just a lot more to be done.
While the rain continued yesterday, Harper did perk up some once she was in charge of the remote control. She does become very pleased with herself when she gets in my chair.
Here is a picture of my pitiful ironing board cover. I got this large ironing board at Costco a number of years ago and very carefully saved the information on how to get a replacement cover. When I decided that I was ready to place an order a couple of years back, I learned that they are no longer made. Now I'm a quilter, that's for sure, but rather than figure out how to make a new cover I went for the easy fix - iron on patches. It's a pitiful sight to behold, but it works just dandy. I'm due for another installment of new patches soon. It's easy to do and allows me to spend my sewing time with fun fabrics.
I bring all this up because I recently read a blog (sorry, I don't remember which blog) where she apologized for her ugly ironing board. So here's the deal. That's sure a lot more than I g ot out of a days cutting from scraps. 4 piles of bricks for a braid I'm making for borders of a quilt.

Oh yes, just ironing all the scraps from some of the bags took hours! It's always facinating finding a scrap system. I see some that I would fold right up and stick back into my piles, but then my piles look a mess half the time!
Almost bought a basket for good scraps today and decided it would most likely end up a kitty sleeping basket!

Oh yeah, I feel your irnoning board pain. Lol* Although you have an excuse...see, I'm just lazy. I finally kept getting my scissors and iron stuck in the rips in my cover, so I made a make shift one out of some yucky fabric I had laying around. I'm still to lazy to go to the dollar store and buy a cover though. I never thought of iron on patches...thanks, now I'll never have to buy a cover!!! LOL***
I just bought a new ironing board cover and I love it so I will get a picture later today.
I think I need to go through my fabrics and do some cutting too - it would sure make those scrap projects go more quickly.

Lovely ironing board! Obviously it gets a lot of mileage. I always have a towel over mine to take the abuse, since I am usually ironing small pieces. Then I can just toss the towel in the washer. Hey, I could make money with that tip! Can I use your photo for the "before" shot?

Since I just posted a hand quilted finish today and will not have time to post another. I will let you know my ironing board is made of 1970's alvacado green with a replacement top that now needs to be replaced. My irioing board is as old as I am. May just maybe I will finally replace the top cover. LAst time I looked at what they cost I decided mine was not taht bad. Thanks for the post!
Scraps . . . yup, as I was unpacking my studio I found enough scraps to fill a U-Haul three-foot square box. Ugh! I guess I need to have a cutting party.

Love your blog entry...ironing boards seem to be the last thing to get the attention LOL! Does it count that my ironing board was featured in my blog entry on Feb. 19, but because it is so disgusting I hid the ~yuck~ with clothes to be ironed, and then a better shot with quilt blocks AND MY IRON :>)!!
The overflowing scrap bins is very typical at my house, actually that made it for a blog entry for me a while back! GOTTA LOVE HOW MUCH QUILTERS THINK ALIKE! Have a great day!

You got a lot accomplished with sorting your scrap basket and now your are ready for another project. Now I'd say you probably should have replaced that cover long long ago. I did replace mine a couple months ago and really cheaped out and bought the cheapest one at Walmart.

Don't be disheartened over your scrap basket! I try to iron and cut an hour a week to gain some control over Scrapasaurus~ The scalloped edge on your quilt came out gorgeous!!

You have made a lot of progress with your scraps Libby. I've tried to do that, but then I get anxious that the fabric I cut into a 3 inch square, really needs to be 2 x 4 Inches when I go to use it. Glad Harper is feeling better - Simon sleeps on the couch but isn't much good at selecting programs.

Target still sells an oversized ironing board cover even though they no long sell the oversized boards. Bummer - I never got mine.

Libby, you're what we used to call back in High School (that's a lot of years ago, darlin') a Card! For years I had this heavy ironing board that was Sears Top-of-the-line. It could be adjusted and had an iron holder at the bottom end that pulled out to put your hot iron. At last it rusted out. Was I ever glad. Now I've got the Target store model.

Well, I've come to the realization that scraps multiply while you're not looking! Oh, and they come out when some have left! ;o) I love my ironing board. I think it's an antique. A friend of mine found it in a home she had bought hidden between beams. She had no use for it, being a lover of new things and gladly offered it to me. I love it! So I make my own covers. I'll have to blog about it! Thanks for the challenge! Cheers!

I got a whole post about my mundane ironing board. Can you believe it? My scrap buckets are also bulging, but my mini group is doing a string quilt and I, good Samaritan that I am, volunteered some scraps for the project. I'm hoping that the level in both buckets (lights and darks) decreases.
You have been very busy, but definitely in need of a new board cover. I just recently replaced mine so it looks pretty good!

Hi Libby! Paula sent me over to officially play and enter the game;) I had already posted on my ironing boards after reading her post. My little sewing room has had homemade ironing board covers for 30 years. Two and a half yards makes two covers lengthwise and all they need is a casing all the way around and a piece of elastic pulled through and knotted to size! When I've been in a super hurry (like you may be)toss some fabric ontop and giftwrap fold underneath and pin down. You can do it! Thanks for such a good chuckle! Love your honesty!!!

Hi Libby: If Blogger is feeling compliant I will post my " ironing corner" in a moment. A word of explanation - my mode as a quilter is - the more barefoot the better - so if I can't iron it with my thumb or with my $10 iron and a bath towel spread on the worktable, it doesn't happen!
Bravo on the scrap management - I noved a huge amount off the table and into a basket this morning! I fancy 2.5 inch blocks and have a biscuit tin full - time to use them!

I think my ironing board looks as nice as yours, a lot of brown on it too. But as long as it works, I could not care less. I saw somewhere on a blog a tutorial to change the board cover and it looked very easy. Have I done it myself? No! There are more important things, right! I don´t think I will make it to post a picture on my blog til tomorrow but I wish good luck to the others for the drawing.

Judging by the look of your board cover, yours gets some pretty heavy duty usage. I posted pics of my ironing table back at the end of January on my blog. Mine looks brand new in comparison,lol. I don't know how I ever managed with a normal size ironing board for my quilting.

Nice scrap pile! I should show my scraps lol I barely have a pile (a little baggy is about it!) yet. I know, I just started though so over time Im sure it will take over my fabric space :o)
I added a photo of my work area and ironing board. When I started quilting I went out and bought a new iron and a new board cover. Im hoping it lasts me some time! Because my ironing board is standard, it's easy for me to walk into walmart and grab a new one :o)
My old ironing board cover was terrible! I wish now that I hadnt thrown it away so I could get a picture of it. Think of this - an 11 year old cover, full of stains and wearing very thin. My husband always had to put a worn out shirt over the cover to iron anything. I had even washed it, but it only made it worse!
