In spite of myself, I got the top for the baby quilt complete today. I was so excited as I cut the threads at the machine from that final seam only to discover I swapped blocks around on the top row. Out came my faithful friend Mr. Seam Ripper. I got busy undoing my work and got it stitched up right the second time around.
The only real casualty in the whole affair is bad lighting for the ta-da photograph. Lots of shadows, but you get the idea. I must say it came out the way I envisioned it in my head. I think it has a vintage flavor but one that shouldn't overwhelm a new, modern mommy. At about 56" square, it will be a great size for throwing on the floor for 'tummy time' during infancy and can turn into a drag-around friend and nap time cuddle for the toddler and pre-schooler years.
I found this nice striped brush cotton for the back.
I just can't resist the soft feel of those brushed cottons. There is enough to make the back, a bias binding with a little left over to feed the strip bin.
Now it's time to clean up the cubby, put away the braid strips and settle in for an evening's work on my daily hand quilting block.

Awesome, Libby. And great job emptying the 2 & 1/2" strip bin. Wish I could say the same.

It looks so cozy and comforting--and not so "untouchable" that Mommy would feel it had to be kept up in a closet or cedar chest.

I can see some kiddo grasping that and sucking his or her thumb while going off to sleep.

Libby, this is such a nice baby quilt. I think I like it because of its calmness. Also, because it will grow with the child.

I know that the mommy & little person that receive your quilt will cherish it forever! Good choice for the backing.

I hear that we could get rain this weekend! Sure....

Very cute. I think that's a nice size. I don't much believe in tiny quilts for babies that are only useful for 6 months or so.

What a shame my son is a bit to old to receive this gorgeous quilt. And you were so fast in sewing, appliqué, I can´t believe it! The brushed coton soulds like a fantastic idea too.
I have been drooling over your antique quilts books as well. I love reading the stories behind quilts and the nice works give me thousands of ideas.
Cheers to the worms and take care!
