The end of another week and it looks like progress is being made. Our house is starting to look and feel more like home each day.
We have not yet hung anything up on the walls. But I just couldn't help trying to find a way to put up some quilts. I came across two that are similar in size and pinned them to the tops of the window treatments as a 'faux valance.' The quilt on the left was made for me by Nancy of Tom Miner Folk Art in a fall swap we participated in a couple of years back. The quilt on the right is called Family Branch from a pattern by Lynda Hall of Primitive Pieces by Lynda.
I found some things to display on top of the kitchen cabinets. You can see we are still trying to decide what color to paint in there. I hope we can make a final decision sometime soon. Then we can hide the decision making process by installing the microwave.
Do not be fooled though. There is still plenty to be done. While our bedroom is also beginning to take shape, but one of the remaining bedrooms is filled to the gills with the boxes and beds for it and it and the other two.
I'm not even ready to discuss what it looks like in the basement and garage. The watch words for the week have been 'pace yourself.' By following them, I've even found time to sew a little.
Just look at what you can do by finding a few minutes here and there to stitch. Inspiring.

It's looking good. I've always wanted to make that Family Branch quilt. I love, love the light gold/tan for the kitchen but I'm sure whatever you choose will be just perfect! I have a paint job ahead of me and I am not looking forward to it at all. Nancy in WI

It's starting to look like home, Libby. I'm glad you've taken time out to do a little stitching. I wonder how many seed catalogues you will pour through this winter.(Big Smile)

Maybe you will get something started there, I think a quilted valance would be perfect in my house too.

Just love the first picture of your family room (I think that's what room it is). The wall color is fantastic. Also love what you have on top of your cabinets. I wish I had that display space but we have lower ceilings and the cabinets go all the way up. I'm really just looking for an excuse to go look for some more great antiques!

When we moved three years ago I set up a sewing corner in my bedroom and sewed a little every day while I unpacked and arranged. That lasted for about 5 months until I got my studio and could start having just a bedroom again. I think it saved my sanity.

Good for you for carving out a little sewing time! Painting rooms just doesn't fall into the creative category, does it? Though, if you're taking a poll on kitchen colors, I vote for the lighter one. With your dark cabinets and the darker-colored paint, that kitchen could look gloomy and dim right about January or February.

But everything looks lovely--and are those still green leaves outside your kitchen window? Are you sure that's the NORTHeast?? lol

Oh it is starting look very homey in that room. Glad to see some stitching happening to break the monotony of unpacking and all the gol-darn decision making that has to be done with each opened box!

Love how your house is turning into your own special place. The quilts make it look warm and cozy. I made a quilt to hang on a rod, years ago, love using them as valances.

That'a terrific that you're making moments to stitch, that'll keep you sane. So far, things look like they're taking shape.

Looking very warm and inviting, so very Libby!!! I love the little "make-do" valances, what a very clever and cute idea! IMHO, I like the lighter color in the kitchen. :~)

I would say it is starting to look a lot like "home". Just shut the doors for the other rooms and work at a non-crazy pace and it will get done in no time. It is really looking very lovely. You have so many beautiful things.

Your house to looking warm and inviting with all the quilts.
Do you take your indoor pictures with a flash? I have trouble getting the lighting right for indoor shots.
How about a moss green for the kitchen...just an idea.

It's looking more and more homey! Do you have very tall ceilings or short cabinets...I don't have near that much room over my kitchen cabinets. Makes for a nice place to display some nice goodies.
