The coming week will find Hubby and I in exile - upstairs. We have taken the last two days making our living room look like this.
All cupboards, drawers and pantry have been emptied in the kitchen to make way for the kitchen remodel which will begin first thing tomorrow morning. Remember this? Before too long, we'll finally be able to unpack the last boxes from our move.
The shelves in the laundry room can be used for things that should be stored there instead of cookware and bake ware that won't fit in the kitchen. The cooking utensils will all be in drawers rather than being carted back and forth in a shipping box.
The peninsula that forms one side of the breakfast area - and the cause of some very interesting body contortions will give way to a new island and breakfast bar.See the tape on the floor? That marks where the island will go. Oh and the floor - well it's going away, too. It will be replaced with wood to match the living and dining room. These cabinets will not go to waste. They are moving to the basement which will soon become quilting central. A pretty good birthday present, don't you think?
While the flurry of activity is going on, I'll be upstairs happily quilting. I'm working on turning these blocks into a quilt. I think I've set myself up with a nice space up there - quilting needs, computer, t.v. Everything a girl could need to pass the day while chaos reigns below.
Last night I took the last stitches in the project that was begun on my California trip last month.
A darling reminder of a fun week.

Good luck with your remodel. Those are always alot of work! I love your little quilt, I need to get around to making more little ones to put around the house. I always mean to, but seem to get myself going on large projects instead.

Happy Birthday Libby - it's one of the 'big ones'. You will love your new kitchen, it's great you can get it done not long after moving in. BTW I looked in my blog settings. I changed a few things, but don't know if this will help with the problem.

It is good you have a place to hide away. I hate being around when my husband is sawing and banging.

I take it you and hubby are not doing the remodeling yourselves. That is a smart move! Hope everything goes smoothly and quickly downstairs while you and Harper hum along happily upstairs!

Oh, a remodel. I see them on TV: what a job. But it seems you are prepared and I know a better kitchen will make a real difference in your quality of life.

How wonderful to get a "new" kitchen! I can't wait to see the pictures. How long do they say it will take? I somehow missed the birthday post, so Happy Birthday!

What a post. I'm full of questions. What's up with that chocolate mold type thing of the crow? That looks wonderful. So will you have increased storage in your kitchen? Is its footprint changing? If so, how will the storage increase? Those cabinets should look extremely pretty in your quilting area. And your last little quilt...did you use snips of fabric from the visit back to Calif.?

Your Christmas Punch is beautiful, as is your California project. Your remodeling sounds like a lot of work, but I'm sure it will be awesome when it is done. Especially when it adds storage space to your quilting room as well. Happy Birthday!

You are going to give a tour of the kitchen AND the quilt space when they are done, aren't you?

Won't that be fun when the kitchen is done. Remind yourself of that if things get dicey around the house. It will be so fun to see your completed kitchen. Your little quilt is adorable. Enjoy your hideaway while chaos rules the main level :).

Hi Libby, Happy Birthday. OMG!!! Ive finally gathered the courage to reach out to you. Ive been a lurker for more than a year now. I really enjoy your blog, I always walk away so inspired...however, I dont quilt "yet" Ive only been painting & dollmaking for 3 years..Im ready to take the big step of beginners quilting. If you have any suggestions for an easy beginner table runner or something "really" small..Id be so appreciative. Thanks for any help, & look forward in seeing your new kitchen...Kat
